Paul Pedana, an Italian born independent singer/songwriter is gearing up to release his second solo album titled A Sole Existence Reflects Eternity. It's a dynamic album mixing alt rock, acoustic ballads, and full sounding theatrical compositions to create something that really sounds and feels like a passion project. It was written after Paul went through some personal issues, and you can tell it has a lot of soul in it. There's also a beautiful cover of the Johnny Cash version of Hurt near the end of the album. Paul's voice is filled with emotion, and his deep tone sounds excellent. I think Johnny Cash would approve of this one. I think the highlight of the album for me are Paul's vocals - he is front and center and sounds great. The album is really well produced, and mixes everything really well, even when the production gets filled with strings and guitar leads. My only gripe is that I wish the drums did a little more - they're pretty simple and feel very samey from song to song. In they end they do their job of supporting the rest of the instruments and don't detract from the album. In the future I'd love to see some more creativity with the percussion. Overall though this album is solid and brings a lot to the table.
Check out A Sole Existence Reflects Eternity if you want a passionate alt rock album that's smooth and well written. I also think that if you're in to Coldplay you'd definitely like this - it gives off similar vibes. You'll be able to purchase the album at Paul's website, linked below.
Top Three Songs
Joy
A slower piano composition filled with sadness juxtaposed with hope. This is a powerful song, and the main lyrical hook of the song "I feel no joy" is incredibly catchy and full of feeling. I like how he uses his falsetto voice to spice up the hook later on in the song and keep it from getting stale. As the song reaches its conclusion drums come in to help make the ending feel really big.
Velvet
This is such a fun sounding song that kept me coming back to it over and over again. The melody at the beginning pulls you in and sticks with you for most of the song. It's one of those tracks that puts a smile on your face and makes you feel like everything is going to be okay.
Le Note Di Quella Canzone
The last song on the album, Paul shows his roots and delivers an incredible performance in Italian. Now, I don't speak the language so I'm not entirely sure what he's singing about. The song is so good though that even though I can't understand a thing it's still one of my favourites. It's an emotional vocal performance over some mellow piano chords. There are moments where strings come in to back up Paul and give the song some extra oomph and create a more dynamic sounding song. It's not complicated, but I think the composition is put together really well and the end result is one of the best songs of the album and a fantastic ending.
